ARNO cooperates with duesseldorf university

12.2013

ARNO‘s creative director Claudio Wolfring teaches design students of Düsseldorf University the do‘s and don‘ts of airport design during their project week “Intramuros“. This future- and practice-oriented collaboration between the university and ARNO offers students an alternative way of studying. Based on real airport floor plans, the students had to research and analyse target groups as well as regional and cultural facts and come up with trend-setting retail concepts. The challenge was to define the retail area and the product portfolio in a way that impuls sales are triggered already at the airport of departure.

After the theory was explained by Prof. Rainer Zimmermann and Claudio Wolfring, the students started to bring the new airports to life based on their prior findings. Already the first drafts of the students showed a high degree of creativity. Claudio Wolfring, an expert in the field of travel retail, showed the students functional aspects such as the division into zones - food, retail and waiting areas-, and explained the importance of visual fields and customer routes. The results of the one-week-lecture are exciting concepts and futuristic visions of the students. They concepted the airports in different parts of the world to be the central main attraction and transformed the airports into worlds of experience, by integrating digital technology such as the airport app, holographic product presentation or the electronic, personal butler.
